This is the largest city in the Peruvian rainforest. It is also located on the great Amazon River and it is the major port in the Amazon basin. This city can only be reached conveniently by a airplane or by boat. However, there are road connections passing through villages. Vessels can travel from the Atlantic Ocean, which is 3600 km away to Iquitos via the Amazon River.




Iquitos has a long history, considering that it was established as a Jesuit center for the local people by the European Peruvians in 1750.During the rubber boom of the 1920s, Iquitos became very well known and almost every one migrate to the city. Today a large bustling city is very busy. While in the city one can travel around by bus, peque peque, bicycle or rickshaw.
